Chapter Five

Finn woke up to the sound of hammering. At first, he’d incorporated it into his dream and spent at least a half hour dreaming about fixing the fence post on the west gate. He woke up, rubbing his eyes. He was alone. War must have started work on the kitchen. Finn pulled on a pair of jeans and made his way downstairs. Waffles was sitting in the middle of the kitchen, chewing on a dog toy. Finn’s gaze went from the dog to War, causing his breath to leave him in a great whoosh. War was shirtless. His tool belt hung low on his hips, clinging to a worn pair of jeans. The muscles in his back bunched and flexed as they went to work. Finn’s mouth went dry and he was momentarily rung speechless.

“Morning?”

War smiled as he tucked his hammer back into his belt. “Get some sleep?”

Their late night had gone long into the early morning. “I did.”

War came in close, backing Finn up against the wall and giving him a powerful kiss. Their lips connected in a burst of fire and wetness. War flicked his tongue deep into Finn’s mouth, making him swoon against his chest. Finn’s heart raced hard for a man he wanted everything with. His prick filled with heat as their hips grinded together. He wanted a future, marriage, and a big happily ever after that would make him happy for the rest of his life. By the time War broke his lips away, Finn was planning their future down to the color of the curtains he would choose when he redecorated their master bedroom.

When Finn opened his eyes, War was looking at him closely. “That was amazing.”

“Yes, it was.” War brushed his hand over his jaw. “Busy tonight?”

“Not really. What did you have in mind?” Finn asked.

“I have a dinner to go to. I’d like you to come with me.”

Finn usually wasn’t so open about heading out with a lover. “Sure. What’s the special occasion?”

War looked uncomfortable. “It’s a formal dinner with work.”

Uncertainty moved through Finn when he thought about everyone his father worked with knowing that he was gay. His father would most likely be there. “You sure you want to bring me as your plus-one?”

War came in close, smoothing his hands over Finn’s jaw. Their eyes locked and Finn felt his heart tilt in that funny way that made him feel breathless. “Yes, I do. I don’t care who knows about us. Trust me.”

“I do. I’m just nervous.” Concern moved through his Dom’s eyes. “I’m not sure if I have anything to wear.”

“Wear whatever you want. It will be perfect,” War said.

“It sounds like fun.”

“You frowned when you said that,” War teased.

“I suppose I did.”

War leaned in, giving him a soft brushing kiss that promised more. “Be ready by seven tonight.”

Finn’s heart raced. How was he supposed to make it through dinner without having his Dom? “I will.”

War turned back to his work. It was then that Finn saw the military-grade binoculars sitting on the kitchen window.
